What’s nice about ActiveCampaign is that there’s a main dashboard where everything is laid out in an easy-to-follow manner.
You can quickly view things like the recent activity of contacts, interaction rate, active contacts, and view top contacts among other things.

Let’s start off by taking a look at the contacts features within ActiveCampaign.
You can see from the image above that ActiveCampaign provides a nice table outlining each contact’s name, email, phone number, corresponding tags, and the date the contact was added to your list.
The most useful thing I’ve found is that you can use the drop-down filters to sort by tag name, list, or status. You can even search for the name of a specific contact.
I personally like to have my contacts segmented with different tags and only have a few lists. I breakdown my tags into the following 3 main tag categories:
I then make individual tags for if they’re interested in affiliate marketing, my course, or any other products. The source category of tags is what I use to specify whether a contact came from my blog, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or any other platform. Lastly, I use the purchased category of tags to note whenever someone has purchased a specific product or service.
Now, why are tags so amazing?
Because based upon a contact’s tags I can implement specific automations of pre-written emails to better serve my customers.😀
Campaigns in ActiveCampaign are essentially email blasts that you can send out as one-time emails or a series of emails.
The campaigns are also laid out nicely in a table format.
The feature I most often use is to view reports. When clicking on view reports, it allows you to see exactly how many opens of the email you received, link clicks, and the specific time a contact opened an email or clicked a link.
The automations tab is where the magic happens!
What I really like is the fact that you can label specific automations to categorize everything which will help tremendously in the long run as you build out more and more automations.
The most important thing you can do with automations is segmenting.
The automation capabilities with ActiveCampaign truly are next-level. You can do if-else conditions, add tags, and so much more.
Conversations is another unique feature that ActiveCampaign provides.
It allows you to incorporate a live chat widget directly on your own website and integrate it with your email automations.
This provides a truly personalized experience for your customers.
The lists in ActiveCampaign is another commonly used feature.
What I personally do and recommend, is to only create a few lists and segment contacts primarily based upon applying various tags inside your email automations.
For instance, I have one main list and a few other lists for those who have purchased specific products. Everything else is based upon my tags. 😀
In order to add contacts to your autoresponder, you need to create the opt-in forms.
What’s nice is that the forms creation process is actually fairly straightforward.
If you’re like me, you spend most of your time looking at reports of campaigns to see how well they performed. 😄
Well, ActiveCampaign provides some pretty incredible reports that provide you quite a bit of detail. You can see exactly how many opens, clicks, and what contacts specifically performed the actions.
The most important thing with these reports is that you discern what’s working in terms of getting you the most opens and highest click-through-rate to then build upon.
ActiveCampaign Pricing: Should You Start With The Lite Plan Or The Plus Plan?
I personally chose to go with the Lite Plan when starting out with ActiveCampaign since that plan had everything I needed.
You’ll get all the automation capabilities with unlimited sending, subscription forms, chat & email support, and up to 3 users.
In terms of the ActiveCampaign Plus Plan, here’s what you’ll get on top of what’s given with the Lite Plan:
- CRM with sales automation
- Facebook custom audiences
- Lead and contact scoring
- SMS Marketing
- Dynamic content
- Custom user permissions
- Up to 25 users
The two main things that stand out to me for the ActiveCampaign Plus Plan are the contact scoring and SMS marketing.
Both of these features would certainly be nice to have in order to be able to segment subscribers more effectively and have a whole other way of contacting subscribers through text message (SMS messaging).
It’s up to you whether you feel that you need these additional options for your subscribers. I’d personally only go with the Plus Plan if you’ve already got a fairly large list and have the phone numbers in addition to email addresses of those contacts.
